WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th October, 2018) US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will likely take part in an anti-terrorism conference in Riyadh despite concerns over the possibility a journalist was murdered at the Saudi consulate in Turkey, media reported on Friday.
Mnuchin will attend the meeting of the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center to be hosted in Saudi Arabia later this month, the Washington Post reported citing three persons familiar with the plans.
On Thursday, after talks with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about the Khashoggi case, Mnunchin in a twitter post said he canceled his trip to Saudi Arabia to attend an investment summit next week.
The Trump administration has been criticized for its lack of response in the Khashoggi case. Trump has acknowledged that the columnist is like dead but said he refuses to suspend arms sales to Saudi Arabia.
Turkish authorities reportedly have evidence Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul earlier this month and have identified suspects tied to Riyadh. Saudi Arabia denied any involvement in the journalist's disappearance.
