MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 01st June, 2019) The number of injured in a series of blasts and a fire at the Kristall plant in the Russian city of Dzerzhinsk has increased to 27, the fate of two people is unknown, an emergency services spokesperson told Sputnik on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, three explosions and a fire occurred at Kristall plant's trinitrotoluene production workshop. A regional government spokesperson earlier told Sputnik that 19 people had been injured in the incident.
"According to updated data, 27 people were injured in the explosions at the plant, one of them is in serious condition," the emergency services spokesperson said.
A turn from the M-7 highway, which connects Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and other cities, to Dzerzhinsk was blocked after the explosions, the press service of the Dzerzhinsk city hall told Sputnik.
"The Moscow highway near Dzerzhinsk was partly cordoned off. There is a turn to the Kristall plant on the M-7. The highway itself is working, but now the turn is blocked there to protect people so that no one can get closer to the plant," the city administration said.
They clarified that the traffic on the highway was not blocked.
