Russian, US Diplomats Discussed Promotion Of Dialogue Between Afghan Sides - Moscow

US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad discussed at the Russian Foreign Ministry the prospects for establishing Russian-US cooperation to launch a direct dialogue in Afghanistan between the conflicting parties, the Russian ministry said in a statement Friday.
On December 7, during a visit to Moscow, Khalilzad was received by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov, after which he held talks with Russian Foreign Ministry Second Asian Department Director Zamir Kabulov, Russia's special envoy on Afghanistan.
"During the meetings, the current situation in Afghanistan was discussed, as well as prospects for establishing Russian-American cooperation in the framework of international efforts to facilitate the launch of a direct dialogue between the opposing Afghan parties," the Russian ministry said.
