MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2018) A total of seven children lost their lives and another five sustained injuries as a result of the detonation of an improvised explosive device, perpetrated by the Taliban movement in the northern Afghan province of Faryab on Friday, local media reported on Saturday, citing provincial officials.
According to the TOLOnews broadcaster, Taliban was targeting security forces agents, however, a dozen children fell victims to the explosion, which took place in the province's Shirin-Tagab district currently controlled by the militant group, criminal investigation chief at the district police Ghulam Ali said.
Ali also said that two of the injured children were in a critical condition after losing their limbs, the broadcaster reported adding that there have been no comments from Taliban regarding the incident.
The Taliban movement is one of many other groups fighting Kabul for control over the country. The group managed to seize power in the middle of the 1990s before being overthrown in 2001. Taliban militants continue to perpetrate regular attacks across the country, with the government forces carrying out anti-terrorist raids against Taliban and other armed groups operating in the country.�
