LONDON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) UK Prime Minister Theresa May called on members of the parliament to work constructively together in order to find a way forward to deliver on the results of the 2016 Brexit referendum in the wake of the lawmakers voting down the withdrawal deal, negotiation by the prime minister with the European Union.
"Now MP's have made clear what they don't want. We must all work constructively together to set out what parliament does want. That's why I'm inviting MPs from all parties to come together to find a way forward," May said in her address after she survived another no-confidence vote in her government on Wednesday.
"I have just held constructive meetings with the leader of the Liberal Democrats and the Westminster leaders of the SNP and Plaid Cymru. From tomorrow, meetings will be taking place between senior government representatives, including myself, and groups of MPs who represent the widest possible range of views from across parliament ... I am disappointed that the leader of the Labour Party [Jeremy Corbyn] has not so far chosen to take part, but our door remains open," May added.
The prime minister noted that the Conservatives' coalition partner, the Democratic Unionist Party, would also be engaged in the upcoming discussions on Brexit.
