MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 30th May, 2019) UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and US Special Envoy James Jeffrey in New York on Thursday to discuss the conflict in this Arab country.

Comprehensive discussions on the path out of the Syrian conflict & implementation of SCR 2254," he tweeted.

Pedersen, who took over from Staffan de Mistura in January, stressed that cooperation and "meaningful steps" would be important in the bid to end the eight-year war. Russia has been calling for voluntary returns of Syrians from the neighboring countries and joint efforts to rebuild Syria.
