BUENOS AIRES (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 02nd December, 2018) Argentina and RT signed a deal on Saturday that will allow the Moscow-based television channel to continue airing its shows on the state television network.
The agreement was signed at the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Argentine leader Mauricio Macri on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires.
"We thank Argentina for the opportunity to continue broadcasting... Over the past four years of airing on the Television Digital Abierta we have learned that people of Argentina want to know different opinions and get the whole picture. The voice of RT in Latin America is heard and trusted," RT Spanish chief Victoria Vorontsova said.
President Putin applauded Argentina's decision to extend the agreement, saying it emphasized the special nature of ties between the two countries.
"I think it underscores the special nature of relations between our two countries and allows Argentine viewers to get an idea of what is going on in Russia," Putin said at a press briefing.
RT shows will now be available across Argentina round the clock until October 2022. RT is the first foreign channel broadcast on the state TDA network. A recent Ipsos poll has revealed that RT's weekly audience in Latin America has tripled over the past couple of years, reaching 18 million.
