DOHA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st March, 2019) Qatar is interested in boosting food deliveries from Russia and is planning to send a large delegation to Moscow to hold talks on the issue, Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Fisheries of Qatar Sheikh Faleh Al Thani told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"We are certainly interested in shipping various agricultural products from Russia. A large delegation of the ministry will go to Moscow in April to participate in an agricultural exhibition and hold talks with Russian farmers," Al Thani said on the sidelines of agricultural exhibition AgriteQ.
According to Al Thani, Russian companies have already started to deliver poultry and eggs to Qatar, however, these shipments are still irregular.
Al Thani also stressed that Qatar wanted to bring its dates to Russia.
"We have received information that dates from Qatar might be in demand in Russia, and we are going to showcase our dates during the agricultural exhibition in Moscow in April.
We would like to arrange the delivery of dates to Russia," Al Thani said.
Head of Food Security Office of Qatari Ministry of Municipalities and Environment Masoud Al Marri said that Qatar was currently forming a "basket" of products needed to ensure the country's food security, which would also include products that needed to be purchased abroad. Al Murri noted that these products also included cereals and livestock products.
International Agricultural Exhibition AgriteQ has been held in Qatar for six years serving as a platform for local and international agriculture stakeholders to exchange experience, discover trends and create new business opportunities in agricultural sector.
