WHO Director-General Calls on African Leaders to Institute Universal Health Coverage

ADDIS ABABA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th February, 2019) African leaders should look to implement universal health coverage across the continent, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO), said during the opening ceremony of the 32nd African Union Summit on Sunday.

"Universal health coverage is above all a political choice ... We look to you to make that choice on behalf of the people you serve," Ghebreyesus said.

The WHO has a regional office in Africa, which responds to needs of 47 member states of the African region. WHO Regional Office for Africa engages in health sector development, combating both infectious and non-infectious diseases, and rapidly responding to emergencies.
