Johannesburg, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Dec, 2018 ) :Wits rose to the top of the South African Premiership and kept Baroka in last place with a 2-1 victory in scorching Polokwane Sunday.
Lehlohonolo Majoro and Namibian Deon Hotto scored either side of half-time for the Johannesburg outfit before Tebogo Sodi for Baroka reduced arrears 10 minutes from time.
Playing in 32 degrees celsius (90 fahrenheit) heat, Wits were reduced to 10 men for the last five minutes after captain Thulani Hlatshwayo left the field with a facial injury and they were pinned back as Baroka sought an equaliser.
"I am thrilled with the result, especially as we had to play in stifling heat," said Wits coach Gavin Hunt.
"Our biggest concern is a lack of final-third ruthlessness. Had we taken more chances, the match would have been over as a contest by half-time." Former defender Hunt has won the Premiership four times as a coach -- completing a hat-trick with SuperSport United before guiding Wits to a first league title two seasons ago.
Wits lead Orlando Pirates on goal difference with both clubs having 27 points as the 30-round league approaches the halfway stage.
Baroka, who shocked Pirates in the League Cup final last weekend, are level on 11 points with Maritzburg United but are last because of an inferior goal difference.
