MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 23rd January, 2019) Japan plans to reduce the hydrogen production costs by at least 90 percent by 2050, making it cheaper than natural gas, and thus promoting clean energy, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

"My government is aiming to reduce the production cost of hydrogen by at least 90 percent by the year 2050 to make it cheaper than natural gas," Abe said.

In October, ministers and government officials from about 20 countries gathered in Tokyo to discuss alternative energy sources. They agreed to boost the use of hydrogen through sharing technology.

Hydrogen has been slowly gaining the public's attention as an alternative energy source it does not produce greenhouse gas emissions and can be generated from biomass, fossil fuels or through water electrolysis with electricity.
