DUBAI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 12th Nov, 2018) As part of the third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils, the Global Future Council on Space Technologies discussed the 'Moon Village' concept, which represents a major milestone for the future of space technologies, and how data produced by space and moon exploration can be useful to obtain new resources.
Participants in the Global Future Council on Space Technologies indicated that in the next decade, the space community will re-explore the Moon’s surface, which will include colonies of people. They also predicted that Mars will be colonized within the next 20 years.
The Global Future Council on Space Technologies highlighted the benefits of discoveries on the Moon and Mars, the exploitation of the valuable extra-terrestrial resources and how to best leverage these resources by updating surveillance data produced by various space agencies worldwide.
Members of the Council reviewed the expected changes in space technology and the space sectors that would contribute to future exploration beyond the Earth’s borders. They also stressed the need to enhance cooperation between government space agencies and leading private sector institutions in order to develop a new global governance framework for cooperation between the two sectors, to enact regulations for space exploration and provide world countries with valuable data.
Participants also underlined the importance of space data in everyday life, and how to use this data in the service of the environment, energy and other sectors. They called for developing new global future governance frameworks and establishing various criteria to ensure space sustainability, as well as to identify communities’ needs for satellites to explore the outer space.
The Council highlighted the significant role of science and discovery in the space sector and their impact on daily life. They called for identifying space technologies, which clearly impact communities, in terms of facilitating communication between community members and access to internet around the world, as well as providing information on climate change.
The third Annual Meeting of the Global Future Councils is held in Dubai, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in collaboration between the UAE Government and the World Economic Forum. The meetings bring together more than 700 of the most relevant and knowledgeable thought leaders from academia, government, business and civil society, grouped in 38 expertise-based, thematic councils that discuss the future of vital sectors and develop practical solutions to challenging issues.
