IAEA Builds Capacity Of Member States To Verify Peaceful Use Of Nuclear Materials

The International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, has organised the 13th international Symposium on Safeguards, which focused on building capabilities of the Member States in the verification of the peaceful use of nuclear material and technology and discussed the current challenges in this field.
VIENNA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 13th Nov, 2018) The International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, has organised the 13th international Symposium on Safeguards, which focused on building capabilities of the Member States in the verification of the peaceful use of nuclear material and technology and discussed the current challenges in this field.
The Symposium, which lasted for three days at the agency's headquarters in Vienna, brought together about 700 participants from 90 countries, nuclear industry experts, the world's leading experts in nuclear verification and from other sectors related to non-proliferation safeguards.
"Effective safeguards provide assurance to the entire world that nuclear material remains in peaceful use and is not diverted to make weapons," said Massimo Aparo, IAEA Deputy Director-General and Head of the Department of Safeguards.
Symposium participants discussed new solutions to the challenges of safeguards and benefited from modern technology and new inventions in non-proliferation safeguards and safeguards for new nuclear facilities.
