Report: Para Jiu-jitsu Competitions In Abu Dhabi Inspire Determination

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 21st Apr, 2019) Inspiring stories of determination were presented by persons with disabilities during their participation in the Para jiu-jitsu competitions at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships, ADWPJJC 2019.
The championship, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, is taking place at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, and will continue until 26th April.
Emirati people of determination participating in the para jiu-jitsu competitions took home 17 medals.
In their statements to the Emirates news Agency, WAM, officials and participants noted that the number of people of determination participating in current championship increased by 40 percent, totalling 100 competitors.
Mohammed Al Marzooki, Director of the Championship, highlighted his keenness to organise para jiu-jitsu competitions during the annual championship.
Soufian Bulaila, Technical Director of the Al Ain Club for People of Determination, said that everyone involved is happy with the various medals won by Emirati competitors, while noting that the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation has helped to promote their presence at the championship.
He added that para jiu-jitsu competitions help to improve the skills of competitors and strengthen their determination and respect.
The Brazilian para jiu-jitsu competitor, Tiago Silva, said that the UAE is a leading country in empowering people of determination, while expressing his happiness at participating in the event, which reflects the UAE’s belief in the capacities of people of determination and their role in building communities.
Mohammed Abdulla Salem, a parent of one of the competitors, said that the competitions will help reinforce the confidence of people of determination, while noting that the UAE is conveying a strong message to the entire world through organising such events.
The competitions in the female youth category began today, while those in the male youth category will begin tomorrow. The competitions in the master’s category for all belts except white will begin on 23rd April.
From 24th to 26th April, the world’s leading jiu-jitsu champions will compete for the championship’s main title.
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation will announce the winners of the championship’s awards, totalling US$198,000, during a ceremony on 27th April.
