Smart irrigation management information systems implemented in Al Ain, Al Dhafra

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 16th Jan, 2019) The Farmers Services Centre in Abu Dhabi has announced the implementation of smart irrigation management information systems for farmers. The smart technologies utilise agricultural meteorological systems, through the installation of two agricultural meteorological stations.

The two stations aim to provide the required climate information for the irrigation of various crops throughout the agricultural season.

The first station in Rimah, Al Ain, will serve farmers in Al Ain and Al Khatm and Al Rahma, Abu Dhabi, while the second station in Seeh Al Khair, Al Dhafra, will cover the region's farms.

An agricultural meteorological station is a key method for identifying the water needs of various crops and related cost-effective methods.

The implementation of the programmes is part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The centre stressed that it will provide agricultural meteorological services, as well as other information required for cultivating crops, to all farmers in the emirate on a regular basis.

Nasser Mohammed Al Junaibi, Acting CEO of the Farmers Services Centre, stated that the centre is exerting significant efforts to rationalise water consumption and increase the efficiency of agricultural water use, and is adopting various methods to achieve this, through motivating farmers to adopt advanced technologies in water irrigation, especially protected agriculture techniques, hydroponics and agriculture using soil substitutes.
