Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, honoured Team Labotel - Abu Dhabi, for winning the inaugural Tolerance Cricket Cup, a part of the National Festival of Tolerance, which was staged at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday.
ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 17th Nov, 2018) Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, honoured Team Labotel - Abu Dhabi, for winning the inaugural Tolerance Cricket Cup, a part of the National Festival of Tolerance, which was staged at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The Cup also marked the country's celebrations of the International Day of Tolerance on 16th November, 2018. The Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium hosted the grand final between Saadiyat Falcons and Team Labotel.
The Tolerance Cricket Cup saw 16 teams from each of the seven emirates compete over seven weekends of intense competition. There were eight teams from Abu Dhabi, three from Dubai and one from the remainder of the emirates. Sixteen operative villages were selected to participate in the event, with each participating team providing a squad of 15 players to compete, demonstrating the virtues of tolerance. The event was organised by Ministry of Tolerance, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, ZonesCorps Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Cricket Club and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance.
The Ministry of Tolerance placed high importance on the message of inclusion and the promotion of active participation in every sector of the diverse community. The Tolerance Cricket Cup celebrated the significant contributions of the workers’ community to the development of the UAE, across all seven emirates.
Sheikh Nahyan said, '' We are all on the UAE’s land, emerging winners in the Tolerance Cup for setting a wonderful example to the world on coexistence, cooperation and interaction for the good of all and respect for others regardless of their religion, race and social and economic background. This is what the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed taught through his true words, acts and stance. Our leadership also introduced laws to protect all segments of the community and support and encourage them to cooperate with each other, and expatriate residents, in the best interests of the nation.'' ''The Tolerance Cricket Cup is a symbolic act of how sports can offer opportunities for interaction and communication between diverse nationalities and fair competition within the spirit of tolerance and coexistence. Wide participation from different teams has encouraged us and makes us more determined to hold the tournament every year,'' he added.
The Tolerance Cricket Cup competition honours Sheikh Zayed as the country is also commemorating the Year of Zayed.
The initiative was formally launched by Sheikh Nahyan in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Cricket, ADC, during the International Labour Day held on the 4th May, 2018, at the Yas Island Operatives Village. The cup was set up for workers across the UAE to take part in and capture the essence of how not just cricket but any sport can unite and transcend all boundaries between different nationalities and cultures.
