Following the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan of uplifting the living standards of poor segment of society, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development had planned to increase the pension of Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) pensioners by 20 per cent
According to officials sources, currently, the amount of pension stood at Rs 5,250 and with the increase it would reach to Rs 6,500.
Negating the media reports about approval of the increase, the sources said the summary had been sent to the Prime Minister Office and would get final approval soon.
The pensioners were continuously demanding to enhance pension amount as they were facing hardships in running domestic affairs, the sources added.
To a question, they said at present, there were around 0.5 million of workers were drawing the pension from EOBI while workers and employers of industries were depositing over Rs 22 million to the EOBI.
Previously, the pensioners had demanded to enhance amount to Rs 15,000 to which previous government did not pay any heed.
