Around 23,000 People Facilitated At Shelter Homes So Far: Minister

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2019 ) :Social Welfare Department has so far provided facilities to almost 23,000 people at five Panahgah (shelter homes), set up at different localities in the city.

Punjab Minister for Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Muhammad Ajmal Cheema said this while talking to civil society members and the party workers here on Monday.

He said that temporary shelter homes were established in collaboration with the district government so that the poor and destitute people, who come from far-flung areas to the provincial capital, could be provided shelter.

The construction work at four, out of five, buildings of shelter homes had been completed and remaining would be completed within a month, he added.

He said that Social Welfare Department's development budget would be enhanced from Rs550 million to Rs735 million, adding that Rs176.95 million had been allocated for new schemes and almost Rs54.295 million earmarked for community welfare centres for transgenders.
