ISLAMABAD, Nov 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Nov, 2016 ) : Islamabad District health department has decided to launch campaign to check dengue outbreak in the city and to assign task to special teams for destroying mosquito breeding places.
The spokesman of the district administration told APP that dengue prevention campaign will be started in the rural areas of Islamabad after reports of few cases about dengue victims. He said sanitary inspectors and lady health workers will be asked for adding Temphos 1% graules in stagnant rain water and ponds.
He said it will help to destroy and eliminate the mosquito breeding cycle thereby killing the mosquito at its larval stage in the current high transmission season. Sanitary inspectors and the Lady Health Workers have been advised to identify active breeding sites by making extensive visits in the villages, Bazaars and congested areas where the rain water had accumulated.
He said the people would be advised to avoid solid waste collection inside and around houses to prevent dengue mosquitoes from laying eggs.
He said solid waste plays an important role as the rain water gets accumulated in the trash that attracts female mosquitoes to lay their eggs in large numbers.
Staff of union councils have been directed to dispose off the solid waste quickly, he added. Hospital based surveillance has been started in the Health Department during the current phase of dengue outbreak management through epidemic response initiated from November onwards that would last till the end of Dengue Fever season in December.
In this phase, a close collaboration and liaison has been developed with six hospitals of Islamabad. The Dengue Fever Control Cell is maintaining an active surveillance in the area to carry out an immediate targeted response by tracking patients with the active disease to carry out all necessary preventive and control measures against dengue fever.
Patients travel history, contact, tracing and identification of high risk areas are also main activities during this phase. Data analysis is the continued activity in this phase, he added.
