ISLAMABAD, Jan 5 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Jan, 2017 ) : The Federal board of Revenue (FBR) has selected 93,277 tax cases for audit for tax year 2015 and tax period from July 01 2014 to June 30 2015 in respect of income tax, sales tax and Federal Excise Duty (FED) through computerized ballot.
Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Minister of State for Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan, Chairman FBR Nisar Muhammad Khan, representatives from Chamber Houses, Pakistan Tax Bars Association and others attended the ceremony held here on Thursday.
According to detail, the FBR selected 2,173 persons for audit from income tax (corporate), 82,090 cases for audit from income tax (non-Corporate). Similarly for sales tax (corporate), 987 cases were selected while for sales tax (non-corporate) 7976 cases were selected for audit.
Likewise, 30 cases were selected for FED (corporate) while 21 cases were selected for FED (non-corporate) for audit.
Earlier addressing the ceremony Chairman FBR, Nisar Muhammad Khan said that in order to promote tax culture and compliance many audit policies were launched in the past but the latest policy that was approved a few days ago had been carefully drafted keeping in mind the wisdom and experience behind policies.
He said the Audit policy, 2016 had proposed a paradigm shift from random ballot to parametric selection and risk based approach. "This approach would minimize chances of selection of compliant tax payers resulting in increased confidence in the system", he said adding that this new trend in taxpayers' audit would not only promote compliance with the existing tax laws but would also generate increased revenues through better declaration for better public spending by the government.
