IHC turns down Imran Khan’s plea in cipher case

The Islamabad High Court has also rejected the plea of the PTI chairman for bail in the cipher case.

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct 27th, 2023) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday turned down the plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in the cipher case.

Chief Justice Aamer Farooq announced the verdict reserved earlier on the plea of the PTI chairman challenging the cipher case. The CJ also rejected the bail request of the PTI Chief.

The CJ had reserved the judgment on October 16, providing sufficient time for both the prosecution and the defense to present their arguments and evidence.

Imran Khan is already under custody on judicial remand in same cipher case.

The cipher case involves the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on August 15, invoking the Official Secrets Act, based on a complaint filed by the Home Secretary.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi were named in the report, along with references to former principal secretary Azam Khan and former planning minister Asad Umar.

The FIR alleged that the former prime minister and foreign minister had manipulated the facts related to diplomatic ciphers. It stated that a conspiracy was initiated to misuse the contents of the cipher for malicious purposes and noted that the former premier and senior diplomat had jeopardized the state's interests.
