Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has said that the police and bureaucracy would be freed from political interference to enhance their performance and impartiality and make them serve the country well.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Sep, 2018 ) :Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has said that the police and bureaucracy would be freed from political interference to enhance their performance and impartiality and make them serve the country well.

"We stand at the crossroads of history and envision a country where political office-bearers do not interfere with the working of the police or civil bureaucracy and seek undue favour to win elections," he said while addressing the medal ceremony to the police martyrs and Ghazis at the Governor's House.

The Punjab governor said Prime Minister Imran Khan was committed to empowering the police and civil bureaucracy with non-interference of the politicians in the posting and transfers of officers.

The ceremony was held to distribute 'Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal' and 'President Police Medal' to the policemen who had embraced shahadat and those were injured or performed deeds of valour in the line of duty.

A total of 103 medal were given away to the martyrs and Ghazis. The heirs of the martyrs received 37 Quaid-e-Azam police medals and 12 President police medals.

Since the medal awarding ceremony was held after a lapse of 10 years, he announced holding an annual ceremony to commemorate the martyrs. He regretted the fact the department had failed to present a befitting tribute to the martyrs and heroes like the living nations do, adding that only those nations live in the history who glorify their martyrs and heroes.

At the same time, Punjab governor called on the police officers to set its house in order and expel the black sheep from the department.

The governor acknowledged the invaluable services rendered by the police for eradication of crime and terrorism and maintaining durable peace with their blood in the province, adding that the nation was proud of the acts of bravery and sacrifices of the armed forces and the police. He said the nations, whose individuals sacrificed their lives for security and solidarity of their countries, could never be dominated by anyone.

He said that the country had become a centre of peace due to sacrifices of our martyrs, adding that our frontiers and cities were safe and terrorists were on the retreat today as a result of the glorious deeds of valour and bravery of the martyrs from the armed forces and the police.

Punjab Governor Ch Muhammad Sarwar admired the police and the armed forces for maintaining law and order during the general elelction 2018 and ensuring free and transparent elections.

Punjab Chief Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Kaleem Imam also spoke on the occasion and paid a glowing tribute to the police officers and jawans.

Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information and Culture Minister Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan, Minister Irrigation Mohsin Leghari, MPAs andsenior police officers were present during the ceremony.
