Rapid Increase In Population A Threat: Minister

Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Col (retd) Hashim Dogar has said that if drastic measures are not taken, population of Pakistan will increase from 22 crore to 45 crore during the next 30 years
He said that Punjab's population is 11 crore currently, which would increase to 22 to 25 crore during the next 25 years.
He was addressing the 2nd International Students Convention and Expo 2019, here Thursday.
The minister said that the world population was growing rapidly and it was feared that it would convert into a bomb soon. He said that population-wise Pakistan is the second largest country of South Asia.
He stressed that no country could make progress with rapid population increase and population control should be our topmost priority.
The provincial minister appreciated parents, who send their daughters to schools and supported them in making their career. He said that education was the best solution and students could play an important role in creating awareness among married couples about family planning.
He said that the Punjab government was going to introduce a bill in the assembly to increase the marriage age of a girl from 16 years to 18 years.
A number of students from different universities attended the convention and expo 2019.
