LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Aug, 2018 ) :An accountability court Monday sent Engineer Qamarul islam and Waseem Ajmal - accused in Saaf Pani Company corruption case sent to jail on judicial remand.
Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced both the accused before Accountability Court Judge Syed Najamul Hassan on expiry of their remand.
The NAB prosecutor submitted that investigations were in progress from the accused and further remand was required for the purpose.
But, the defence counsel opposed the request saying that the NAB had failed to find any evidence against the accused despite 48-day physical remand. He said that all required record had been provided to the Bureau, and no longer physical remand was required.
At this, the court rejected NAB request and sent the accused to jail till August 29 on judicial remand.
It is pertinent to mention here that Qamarul Islam served as the chief executive officer of the Saaf Pani Company. He is accused of having awarded contracts for water treatment plants at a higher price. His predecessor Ajmal is also accused in the case.
Saaf Pani Company is one among 56 public limited companies, set up by the PML-N Punjab government soon after assuming power in the province in 2013. All these companies are now being probed by NAB.
