(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Sep, 2017 ) Fayyad Ahmad was awarded capital punishment over alleged killing of Zaffar Iqbal in the Vehari in 1999. The trial court had awarded Fayyaz death sentence whereas the Lahore High Court had maiintained the sentence.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Dost Muhammad Khan heard the case. The bench observed that the prosecution has failed to prove his case.
The bench turned down the sentence awarded by the high court and ordered for acquittal of the convict.
Advocate Saddiq Baloch counsel for the accused informed the court that it was correct that Zaffar Iqbal was murdered but the accused was not guilty. He said that there was a contradiction in the post-mortem report and First Information Report (FIR). He said that the incident took place in another area and dead body was found from somewhere else.
