As desired by the Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Professor Dr. Razia Sultana the 9th edition of the Inter-College Games under the aegis of Directorate of Sports will commence from November 20 at different venues
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 03rd Nov, 2017 ) :As desired by the Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Professor Dr. Razia Sultana the 9th edition of the Inter-College Games under the aegis of Directorate of Sports will commence from November 20 at different venues.
This was stated by Director Sports Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University and former national athlete Marriya Samin Jan while talking to media persons soon after attending the general body meeting chaired by the Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar.
The meeting was also attended by Director Physical Education and Sports, Lecturers Physical Education from all the affiliated colleges. The meeting started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Unsia Khan of Girls College City Gulbahar, followed by the approval of the last general council.
Speaking on this occasion, the Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Professor Dr. Razia Sultana underscored the importance of sports for women students and revealed that the latent structure of students consisted of six factors that include sport action with friend, popularity, fitness and health, social status, sports events, relaxation through sports.
She said: �We have to motivate our students in situations where one is physically capable of performing the task but is uncertain about her capabilities, which in many cases is a problem that keeps female students from chosen sports activity.� The reasons one gives for participating or not participating in sport have received extensive attention over the past few years, she said, adding �understanding why some individual were reluctant to participation in sport was much vital to bring our students towards the sports fields.
Studies around the world have shown that young people are not that much physically active as they need to be she said adding regular physical activity is vital for good physical and mental health.
It helps improve your overall health and fitness, maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk for many chronic diseases and promote good mental health.
As a firm believer students have to adopt healthy sports activities for their own development both mentally and physically and to help them do this we need to reassess our role as higher education providers, she said.
�We should not just provide the opportunities for students to achieve good academic results but actively promote the benefits of a wider curriculum to students by involving them in healthy sports activities and that is why I directed the Directorate of Sports to have sports activities over the year.
After all, university should see a transformation experience through which students can prepare themselves to succeed in the many and varied roles they will undertake in future life, she remarked.
Over the last few years, SBBWU has evaluated its offering to recognize the importance and value of both academic and co-curricular activities in developing the range of skills. �Thanks to the introduction of a new BS structure of Physical Education Department where currently admission continued in order to inculcate and equip our students to face tough future challenges with healthy mind and body.
The curriculum enables students to develop their subject knowledge, academic literacy and a range of complementary capabilities besides know how about the importance of sports in routine life. Going to university is no longer seen as a rite of passage by this generation � it should be a well-considered investment.
We regard our students not as customers but as learning partners, encouraging them to take control of their academic and personal development to shape their own future, she concluded. The University will hold squash, hockey, baseball, football, handball, cricket, basketball, netball, table tennis, badminton, judo, athletics, and volleyball competitions and it is mandatory that students of all the affiliated colleges would take part.
