Russia's Soyuz-5 Carrier Rocket Could be Renamed as 'Irtysh' - Source

The Russian Soyuz-5 medium-class launch vehicle is expected to be renamed after the Irtysh River, a Russian space industry source told Sputnik on Thursday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd November, 2018) The Russian Soyuz-5 medium-class launch vehicle is expected to be renamed after the Irtysh River, a Russian space industry source told Sputnik on Thursday.

"The possibility of renaming the Soyuz-5 launch vehicle after the Irtysh River is being considered. The necessary documents for renaming have been prepared, but not yet signed," the source said.

Current Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin said in 2016, when he was serving as Russian deputy prime minister, that the boosters for Russian carrier rockets would receive the Names of rivers in the European part of Russia, while the launch vehicles would be named after the major rivers in Siberia and Russia's Far East.

The Irtysh River is a river in Russia, China, and Kazakhstan. It is the chief tributary of the Ob River.
