MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) The Central African Republic's (CAR) government and armed opposition groups will engage in direct dialogue at Khartoum talks that are starting on Thursday, and the work is likely to last until a formal peace agreement is reached, Smail Chergui, the African Union commissioner for peace and security, who will personally conduct the negotiations, told Sputnik.

"I am personally conducting the dialogue.

We are looking for a formal peace agreement between the government and the armed groups. There will be also direct dialogue between the two parties. We expect to work until we secure the agreement," Chergui said.

Maxime Kazagui, the car government's spokesman, told Sputnik on Wednesday that the government was intent on reaching a peace deal at the talks in Sudan's capital, and hoped that all sides present at the talks would have a "real desire to bring peace."
