Berlin Says Security Situation Permits Refugees To Return To Iraq From Germany

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Tuesday that there are grounds for the return of Iraqi refugees home from Germany.
"I think that the security situation is such that we can say there are grounds for ...
people to get a chance to stay here [Baghdad and other regions of the country], as well as coming back here [from abroad]," Maas said during his working visit to Iraq, as quoted by the DPA news agency.
Germany has been one of the EU states which have accepted the largest number of people since Europe's migration crisis erupted in 2015. Berlin's open-door policy, which resulted in hundreds of thousands of people pouring into the country from the middle East and North Africa, has prompted criticism from those claiming that the security situation in the country has worsened due to the influx of migrants.
