DONETSK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 01st September, 2018) Following the assassination of the leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Alexander Zakharchenko, DPR military units were put on high alert, the republic's operational command told Sputnik on Friday.
Earlier on Friday, Zakharchenko was killed in a bomb blast in a cafe in downtown Donetsk. The explosion also caused serious injuries to DPR Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Timofeev, who accompanied Zakharchenko, who is now in grave condition in a hospital. The DPR authorities have classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
"This terrorist attack aimed to destabilize the situation in the republic and was carried out by the forces of the Ukrainian special operations controlled by the US security services.
All the units of the national militia have been put on high alert! The enemy will not have an opportunity to use the current situation and violate our borders," the DPR command said.
The DPR command also called on the international community to hold accountable Ukraine's "criminal authorities" for the committed offense.
Alexander Kazakov, the adviser to the late DPR leader, said that the DPR military had recorded the movement of the Ukrainian armored vehicles from Volnovakha in Ukraine-controlled territory in the direction of Dokuchaevsk on DPR territory.
