India's new chief justice sworn in.

NEW DELHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Aug, 2017 ) : Justice Dipak Misra was sworn in on Monday as the new chief justice of India, officials said. Justice Misra was administered oath of office by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind during a ceremony in New Delhi.

The 64-year-old Misra will be 45th Chief Justice of India. He has succeeded Justice J.S. Khehar who retired from service on Sunday.

The new chief justice would preside over India' top court for the next 13 months.

He is scheduled to retire on Oct. 2, 2018. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Justice Misra on taking oath as the new chief justice. "I congratulate Justice Dipak Misra on taking oath as the Chief Justice of India. I wish him the very best and a fruitful tenure," an official statement quoted Modi as saying.
