Syria's return to the Arab League would empower the organization to directly contribute to the Syrian settlement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th April, 2019) Syria's return to the Arab League would empower the organization to directly contribute to the Syrian settlement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday.

"As for Syria's return to the Arab League, this topic was discussed [at the Russian-Arab forum].

Most of my colleagues from the Arab world agree that this should be done and that the Arab League will essentially start directly contributing to the search of solutions to implement Resolution 2254," Lavrov said at a briefing.

"Due to the fact that Syria is not presented in the organization, the Arab League is constrained in its ability to help [the settlement] process now," Lavrov added.
