The Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs has endorsed the candidacy of Christopher Landau for the post of US ambassador to the country, the ministry said in a statement

MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th March, 2019) The Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs has endorsed the candidacy of Christopher Landau for the post of US ambassador to the country, the ministry said in a statement.

"The proposal for Landau's appointment has been received from the US Embassy in Mexico in late February of the current year.

The Mexican government believes that Christopher Landau's appointment will help promote and strengthen bilateral relations of respect and mutual understanding," the statement released on Tuesday said.

Former US Ambassador to Mexico Roberta Jacobson left the country last spring. The ambassador's resignation came amid tensions between the two countries caused by Washington's plans to build a wall on the border with its neighbor and the revision of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
