UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is continuing to advocate for a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians as the only way to end the conflict, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a briefing on Monday.
WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th September, 2018) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is continuing to advocate for a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians as the only way to end the conflict, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a briefing on Monday.
"He [Guterres] continues to believe in the two-state solution as the only possible outcome," Dujaric told reporters.
Guterres remains concerned about the humanitarian situation in the region, especially at the time when the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNWRA) lacks funding to do its work.
However, UNWRA opened schools for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon earlier this month despite the cuts in its funding.
Tensions near the Gaza border have been mounting since late March as Palestinians attempted to conduct what they call a Great March of Return. Recent disturbances on the Israeli-Gaza border have been caused by continued shelling and the launching of arson balloons by Hamas militants into Israeli territory.
