EU May Consider Projects on Doubling Azerbaijani Gas Deliveries to Europe - Oettinger

The European Union may consider projects on doubling Azerbaijani gas deliveries to Europe over the next decades, bringing the annual supplies to 20-25 billion cubic meters of gas, EU Commissioner for Budget and Resources Gunther Oettinger said on Wednesday

BAKU (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 20th February, 2019) The European Union may consider projects on doubling Azerbaijani gas deliveries to Europe over the next decades, bringing the annual supplies to 20-25 billion cubic meters of gas, EU Commissioner for Budget and Resources Gunther Oettinger said on Wednesday.

Oettinger is currently paying a visit to Azerbaijan, where he has met with country's President Ilham Aliyev.

Following the talks, the EU commissioner said at a briefing that Brussels might consider the gas projects following implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor.

Azerbaijan is one of the key countries that partake in the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) project, launched by the European Commission and aimed at obtaining new sources of gas supplies to Europe. The project envisages the construction of the infrastructure that will help deliver gas from the Caspian region, namely Azerbaijan, to Europe via Georgia and Turkey. The first phase of the corridor was launched in May, 2018.
