FNC, Russian Duma Discuss Parliamentary Cooperation

ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 21st Apr, 2019) Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Zaabi, Second Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, and Head of the UAE-EU Parliamentary Friendship Group, today received a parliamentary delegation from the Russian Duma, which included Buvaisar Hamidovich Saitiev, Member of the Russian Duma, who coordinates the State Duma’s work with the FNC.
During the meeting, which was held at the FNC’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, both sides discussed ways of promoting cooperation between the UAE and Russia, especially their parliamentary ties.
The meeting was attended by members of the FNC and the Friendship Group, including Dr. Saeed Abdullah Al Muttawa and Aza Soliman bin Soliman, along with Ahmed Shabib Al Dhaheri, FNC Secretary-General, and Yuri Vidakas, Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Embassy.
The meeting’s participants highlighted the importance of strengthening the parliamentary cooperation between the UAE and Russia through signing a related Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, and establishing a parliamentary friendship committee. They also discussed the importance of exchanging visits and expertise, and unifying their visions and stances in international forums.
Al Zaabi highlighted the close relations between the UAE and Russia, which are witnessing overall growth, while noting the importance of coordinating their stances on causes of common interest during international parliamentary events.
Al Dhaheri explained to the Russian delegation the FNC’s legislative, monitoring and political experience, and the advancement of the UAE’s parliamentary structure since the establishment of the FNC on 12th February 1972. He also discussed the role of the FNC’s General Secretariat, its strategic plan for 2016 to 2021, its future goals, and the key regional and international role of parliamentary diplomacy, while affirming the importance of exchanging visits, expertise and knowledge.
The Russian delegation thanked the FNC for its hospitality, and highlighted the importance of expanding the overall relations between the two countries, especially on a parliamentary level, as well as establishing a joint parliamentary friendship committee.
