by Nour El Hajj ABU DHABI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM - 20th Mar, 2019) Setting a new benchmark for people of determination all around the world from the UAE, Brendyn Monsorate, Bilal Hafeez, and Christopher Swaminathan, came to the Special Olympics World Games to demonstrate how sports can empower people and make their dreams come true.
Better known by their initials as the ‘BBC’ trio, the World Games’ team of special correspondents could not come at a better timing to witness a sense of camaraderie, inclusivity and unity flourishing and holding particular resonance for persons with disabilities and their families across the UAE capital.
In January 2018, Dr. Amit Kakkar, a media expert, met the three talented students for the first time in Al Noor Training Centre, and he began his training since then. "It took me eight months to train them. I happily passed on my expertise in tv, broadcast, and print media," said Kakkar.
Dr. Kakkar equipped the enthusiasts with the tools and training required while keeping each of their unique interest in mind. He prepared Bilal Hafeez to be a print media reporter after he discovered his excellent writing skills. Bilal is currently writing an autobiography about himself and his story with Cerebral Palsy, which he plans to dedicate to parents of people of determination.
He also groomed Christopher Swaminathan to be an IT correspondent as he found him a true tech-savvy fascinated with everything in the technology sphere, and prepared Brendyn Monsorate to be an entertainment correspondent following his keen interest in the entertainment business.
By covering the Special Olympics World Games, the three talented students will become the first batch of people of determination to report and cover the event from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
The SOWG employed the three students as paid members of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, and they have been conducting interviews with delegation leaders and athletes since.
Expressing his excitement to cover the event, Christopher Swaminathan said, "My impact is all about the Special Olympics World Games". Christopher is covering all the games, passionately focusing on People of Determination. "How people are trained for their sports activities, and how they came to be representing their countries in this event," explained Swaminathan.
In the meantime, Brendyn Monsorate is focusing on the winners and how each felt about receiving the medal and representing their country. "This is a chance for People of Determination to improve their skills. I wish them all the best," said Brendyn.
Brendyn supported the Emirates news Agency, WAM, and conducted an exclusive interview with UAE Olympic medalist Rebecca Ann Hatcher. He asked about what kind of message she’d like to send to the People of Determination. "My message is we have a chance to shine and show people in the world that we can do awesome things," Hatcher enthused.
The three talented journalists are covering the SOWG and witnessing the events unfolding. Each of them is showcasing the excellent skills and talents people of determination have.
Dr. Kakkar thanked the leadership of the UAE for empowering such initiatives by inspiring People of Determination to showcase their skills to the world proudly.
