Australian Senate President Desires Stronger Parliamentary Ties With Pakistan

President of the Australian Senate Scott Ryan has lauded the constitution of Australia-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Senate of Pakistan and expressed the desire to further strengthen these relations.

He was talking to High Commissioner of Pakistan Babar Amin who called on him at Canberra, a press release Tuesday said.
The Senate president also called for a greater interaction between the two parliaments including at the multilateral parliamentary forums.
He informed that the invitation to attend the meeting of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Pakistan was under consideration and would be responded in due course.
Scott Ryan appreciated the idea of assistance in legislative capacity building and assured to look into for possibilities.
Pakistan high commissioner discussed the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and briefed the president of the Senate on the recently successful general elections in Pakistan.
He highlighted government of Pakistan's developmental and foreign policy priorities including strengthening of parliamentary cooperation with the friendly countries.
The high commissioner informed the president about the formulation of Pakistan-Australia Friendship Group in the Senate of Pakistan and recommended strengthening the mechanism for regular interaction between Senates of the two countries to enhance understanding and cooperation.
He also re-communicated the invitation by the Senate chairman of Pakistan, to the president of Australian Senate and Speaker of the House of representatives to participate in the APA's Standing Committee on Political Affairs in Gwadar on October 29-31.
