Careem had landed itself in hot waters over its recent ad encouraging girls to run away from their weddings.
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 19th March, 2019) Careem Pakistan has removed the bike ad from billboards after it faced criticism on social media.
According to reports, State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi had also called upon Careem CEO to justify their recent marketing.
Careem had landed itself in hot waters over its recent ad encouraging girls to run away from their weddings.
The ad featured a Pakistani bride along with the tagline, “Apni shaadi se bhaagna ho to tou Careem bike karo” (Book a Careem bike if you want to run from your wedding).
Ride-hailing service Careem is known for its unique and intriguing advertisements.
However, it appears to have gone too far in its marketing gimmicks in the recent ad which had sparked a new controversy.
The ad was widely criticized for it was against Pakistan’s cultural values. There was a social media campaign targeting Careem for the ad. People even asked for a regulatory body to keep a check on such ads.
On the other hand, some people had appreciated the idea as girls are often forced into marriages under family pressure.
However, Careem has now removed the ad following the backlash.
