Eight day photo exhibition on human stories kicks off

PESHAWAR, March 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Mar, 2017 ) : A photo exhibition themed as Human stories through photography kicked off here at the Nishtar Hall gallery on Thursday. The eight-day photo exhibition is aimed at highlighting poverty, hunger, gender inequality, injustice, climate change and 17 other development goals in Pakistan, says a press release issued here.

The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP), Directorate of Culture, European Union, United Nations Information Centre, Embassy of France in Pakistan, UKAid and Agency France Press have jointly organised the event.

Secretary Sports, Tourism and Culture Muhammad Tariq, TCKP Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Director General United Nations Department of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Muhammad Luqman, Counsellor for Development & Culture Corporation Andray Dubusy, Agency France Press Bureau Chief for Pakistan & Afghanistan Amlie Herenstein and Director United Nations Information Centre Vittorio Cammarota formally inaugurated the exhibition by cutting the ribbon.

Director Culture Ajmal Khan, Director Archaeology Dr Abdul Samad and a large number of students and visitors were also in attendance. Secretary Sports, Tourism and Culture Muhammad Tariq, TCKP Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Director General SDGs Muhammad Luqman, Amlie Herenstein and others spoke on the occasion.

They said that the exhibition was meant to showcase human stories of development in Pakistan through a collection of 102 professional photographs. They said the exhibition would truly serve the purpose of creating awareness among the people.

Actually, our government is making strenuous efforts for achieving the 17 goals set under UN SDGs. They are now our national goals and agenda of change for the better future of our people, Secretary Tourism and Culture Muhammad Tariq said.

The government of Pakistan, the speakers added, had taken a number of steps for ending poverty, hunger, gender inequality, injustice and providing facilities for quality education, healthcare, clean drinking water, better employment opportunities, viable economics, cheap energy, infrastructure, climate change, sustainable development and others.

They said the youth had to play a vital role for achieving the desired goals. MD Mushtaq Ahmed Khan highlighted the objectives and steps taken by the TCKP for the promotion of tourism and sports activities in the province.

He said the corporation had arranged seminars, workshops and awareness campaigns besides promoting tourism, music, painting and sports events and supporting artistes and painters. He said the TCKP had recently organised a painting exhibition in which the largest water colour painting of the country was displayed.

The exhibition will start at 10am and continue till 4pm at Nishtar Hall Gallery. It will be open to students, both male and female, and families. The exhibition displays photographs on the SDGs that represent a common agenda adopted by the world leaders to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice and tackle the climate change by 2030.
