Minorities demand political parties seriousness on their rights to vote

A vibrant democratic process is vital to address the issues of deprivation and protect the rights of minorities.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th May, 2018 ) :A vibrant democratic process is vital to address the issues of deprivation and protect the rights of minorities. The community leaders, social and political activists from Yuhannabad (NA-134 and PP-170) and other speakers said addressing a consultation meeting on 'Elections 2018 and Rights of Religious Minorities' organized under the auspices of Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Hina Jilani, a senior leader of Human Rights commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and Peter Jacob (CSJ) addressing the event encouraged the participants to engage meaningfully during elections 2018 for realization of rights and protection of religious minorities in the country.

The dialogue focused the way forwards to ensure the economic, political and social inclusion of religious minorities in the national mainstream. The discussants pointed out issues such as; discriminations in the system, implementation of job quota, and institutional protection for Minorities' Rights, that the successive governments have failed to address.

The participants of the consultation meeting passed a resolution affirming that they will participate in upcoming general elections and shall support political parties that manifest determination and capacity to address issues faced by minority communities.
