NDMA Directs PDMAs For Taking Necessary Measures To Avoid Losses

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th August, 2016) : National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Wednesday directed PDMAs for adopting precautionary measuers in vulnerable areas of Punjab, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir to avoid losses, both of properties and lives. "Heavy falls may trigger flash flooding, landslides and GLOF events in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir," said a spokesman of NDMA. "All rescue and relief agencies, departments are required to remain vigilant," he said.
He said, rain-thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls) was expected at a number of places in Kashmir, Punjab and Islamabad while at scattered places in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, FATA, Upper Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana Divisions), Eastern Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad Divisions) and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Meanwhile, Medium Level Flood was recorded in River Chenab at Trimmu. He said due to rain and storm in District Bannu, 2 deaths and 28 injuries were reported. About road situation, he said, a patch of Gilgit-Skardu road (S-1) at Chamachu, Randu, District Skardu, was washed away.
One way road was opened for traffic while repair work on remaining portion of the road was underway. 3.2 tons of food items were provided to affectees of District Lakki Marwat, he added.
