Shibli Faraz seeks suggestions to address circular debt issue

Leader of the House in Senate, Shibli Faraz Tuesday invited the parliamentarians to come up with solid suggestions to address the matter of circular debt in the country.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Sep, 2018 ) :Leader of the House in Senate, Shibli Faraz Tuesday invited the parliamentarians to come up with solid suggestions to address the matter of circular debt in the country.

Addressing the Upper House of the Parliament on adoption of report of the special committee on circular debt, presented in the house by him as convener of the said committee, he said this was an important subject which was causing negative effects on the economy of the country.

He said "I undertook that responsibility as the issue was serious and there was a need to talk about things to address the issue of circular debt." Earlier, Rehman Malik said the matter was important for people of all provinces. He said everyone should know that who was actually getting loss of electricity theft.

He said it seemed departments concerned were also involved in electricity theft. He said wind energy in Sindh had batter capacity than any other province to generate electricity and asked to avoid the discrimination with the provinces.

He said investigation should be initiated by the Federal Investigation Agency against those who were the main reasons behind piling up of circular debt and they should be given punishment over this.

Siraj-ul-Haq said supply of electricity should be ensured to the areas of Balochistan and mechanism should be evolved to address the issue of circular debt.

Nauman Wazir said the government had been working on the matter and added that 364 mini hydro grid stations had been installed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by the PTI provincial government in the province.

He said off-grid stations should be installed in all provinces. He asked reasons for not functioning of grid stations installed by the past government.

Shamim Khan Afridi said there was an issue of power distribution in the country while there was no way to check the billing system to facilitate the customers and urged to improve the billing system.

Javed Abbasi and Jahanzeb Jamaldeni also spoke on the matter.
