USAID-AFGP to train KP Rescue-1122 staff in disaster preparedness

USAID's Ambassador's Grant Fund Program (USAID-AFGP) has joined hands with Khyber Pakthtunkhwa emergency Rescue-1122 service to enhance the capacity of rescue staff in disaster preparedness

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jan, 2019 ) :USAID's Ambassador's Grant Fund Program (USAID-AFGP) has joined hands with Khyber Pakthtunkhwa emergency Rescue-1122 service to enhance the capacity of rescue staff in disaster preparedness.

Network of Disaster Management Practitioners Thursday organized a one-day launching ceremony of the project titled "Developing CADRE of Community Workforce for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response for Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province" here at Emergency Rescue Service (Rescue 1122) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa office.

Project Manager Shafi Ullah presented the objectives, cascade trainings activities that includes capacity building of Rescue 1122 staff and further to develop a workforce on disaster preparedness.

The launch ceremony was chaired by Dr. Khateer Ahmad, Director General Rescue 1122 KP who in his inaugural address said, "Rescue 1122 KP was the first responder in any emergency by virtue of KP Emergency Rescue Services Act 2012." He said today Rescue-1122 was delivering emergency services in 10 districts of the province, adding that there was always chance of improvement in this vital department by upgrading in the capacity building of Rescue 1122 professionals.

In light of training and enhancing capacity of Rescue 1122 staff, he said the USAID-AFGP grant project through NDMP was being explored for the purpose.

Secretary Relief, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr. Asad Ali Khan, in the closing session said the set project activities would create awareness about the disaster preparedness and emergency response.

It would also help developing CADRE of community workforce for disaster preparedness and emergency response for Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, he added.

Around 30 participants from government, non-government organizations and academia participated in the launching ceremony.

At the end, Falak Nawaz, Team Leader of the project thanked all the participants, especially the officials of Rescue 1122 for their participation and support.
