Workshop On Value Chain Of Tourism Held In Northern Pakistan

CHITRAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -6th Sept,2016) : A daylong workshop on Value Chain of Tourism Industry in Northern Pakistan was organised here at a local hotel by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMD).
District Nazim Chitral, Maghfirat Shah was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the participants of the workshop, he said "we have a great potential in tourism sector but unfortunately this potential was not properly materialized".It was a dire need of the time to enhance our tourism for sustainable and long term development of Chitral, he added.
Programme consultant Shamsuddin said that Chitral has different types of tourism opportunities like adventure, cultural, sport and eco tourism. We have kalash culture, Wakhi culture in Broghul valley, freestyle polo, yak polo, 14 languages, unique types of traditional food, high altitude peaks that can attract domestic and foreign tourists.
Principal, Mola Nigah said Terichimir peak was crossed by Norwegian expeditor in 1960 after which the spot became a great temptation for international and national hikers.Tourism here has became a main source of income for local people.
Paragliding pilot Saifullah Jan and Shahzada Farhad Aziz said that Chitral was the only place where world record of paragliding registered 3 times by foreign pilots and still they were desirous to come here and take a flight from Beermoghlasht, a best destination for paragliding lovers.
Professor Mumtaz Hussain, Professor Rahmat Karim Baig and other also highlighted the importance of tourism in Chitral and termed it the prime way of development for the district. The workshop was participated by people from different walks of life who thanked ICIMD for promoting tourism in this region. APP/vak/ghf/anm
