BERLIN, Nov 8 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 08th Nov, 2016 ) : Ex-Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Michael Henke was on Tuesday appointed as caretaker coach at German league strugglers Ingolstadt, who are chasing their first Bundesliga win this season.
The 59-year-old, who worked as Ottmar Hitzfeld's assistant in steering both Borussia Dortmund (1997) and Bayern Munich (2001) to the Champions League titles, will prepare the team for their next league game at Darmstadt on November 19.
Having spent a season as chief scout at Aston Villa in 2012, Henke has worked as assistant coach at Ingolstadt since 2013. He steps in after Markus Kauczinski was sacked on Sunday after eight defeats and two draws from their first ten games left the club second from bottom in the table.
"We are working hard to find the right coach for us," said Ingolstadt's managing director Harald Gaertner. "Until then, we have found an optimal transitional solution with Michael Henke, because he knows the team and the circumstances." The Bavarian club is eager to find a permanent replacement to keep them in Germany's top flight.
Jos Luhukay (last at VfB Stuttgart), Andre Breitenreiter (ex-Schalke 04), Michael Frontzeck (ex-Hanover 96) and Murat Yakin (formerly with Spartak Moscow) have been linked to the role.
