India Successfully Puts Observation Satellite Into Orbit - Space Research Organization

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched on Wednesday a RISAT-2B observation satellite into orbit, the organization said

NEW DELHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd May, 2019) The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched on Wednesday a RISAT-2B observation satellite into orbit, the organization said.

The satellite will observe the earth's surface throughout the day, even in cases of heavy cloud cover.

"India's PSLV-C46 successfully launched RISAT-2B satellite from of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota. PSLV-C46 lifted-off at 05:30 Hrs (IST) [00:00 GMT] on May 22, 2019 from the First Launch Pad of SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota .

.. About 15 minutes and 30 seconds after lift-off, RISAT-2B was injected into an orbit of 555 km [344 miles] at an inclination of 37 degree to the equator," the statement said.

ISRO chief Kailasavadivoo Sivan said that the satellite would significantly improve the Indian military's capabilities with regard to controlling the situation near its borders.

According to the ISRO, the satellite is intended to provide information to agricultural, forestry and disaster management experts.
