Lockheed Martin Successfully Integrates Advanced Radar With Unmanned Aerostat

The 74K Aerostat System - an unmanned, helium-filled blimp - has been fitted with a specialized RDR-1700B radar to detect small maritime targets on the high seas and land, Lockheed Martin said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 06th November, 2018) The 74K Aerostat System - an unmanned, helium-filled blimp - has been fitted with a specialized RDR-1700B radar to detect small maritime targets on the high seas and land, Lockheed Martin said in a press release on Tuesday.

"The integration of the Telephonics radar showcases our continued commitment to exploring the latest technologies as part of our aerostat systems," Lockheed Martin Vice President of Navigation, Surveillance and Unmanned Systems Jerry Mamrol said in the release.

The 74K aerostat system leverages a wide-area, communications backbone for the integration of threat reporting from multiple available sensor assets, the release explained.

The newly integrated RDR-1700B radar system is designed to detect tiny targets and emergency beacons in all weather conditions, according to the manufacturer Telephonics.
