MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th March, 2019) Russian cosmonauts will conduct tests to probe causes of the metal shavings that have been found out on the Soyuz MS-09 after the hole incident, Russian State Space Corporation Roscosmos chief Dmitry Rogozin told reporters.
On August 30, the crew of the International Space Station (ISS) detected an insignificant air leak, caused by a microfracture on a wall of the living section of the Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft, docked to the ISS. The hole was patched on the same day to restore the hermetic integrity of the ISS.
Roscosmos is considering the possibilities that the hole was drilled while building the spacecraft on Earth or by someone already on the ISS.
"We do not have an answer to the question where the metal shavings, found in the household compartment, come from... In order to answer this question, it is necessary, roughly speaking, to drill again at the same place to see where the shavings will go. We have already drilled on the Earth and now we have to do it in zero gravity," Rogozin said.
