UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 28th September, 2018) The African Union may soon start preparing a legal document to go ahead with the settlement initiative for the Central African Republic (CAR) after receiving replies for the armed groups' demands, Ismail Chergui, Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, told reporters.
"We are at a very advanced stage when it comes to the African initiative [of the African Union]. We are expecting responses for very clear demands from the armed groups, so we are hopeful that now we could be in a position to start preparing legal documents which can allow us to go ahead for this initiative," Chergui said on Thursday.
The African Union mediated talks in August between 14 armed groups in car in the town of Bouar, as a result of which the armed groups released a document containing 104 demands for the government.
